Student Agreement
Every student accepts this agreement in the lab platform before starting their first lab in a course. A lab cannot start until it is accepted. It is published here so institutions can review it.
Version 2
1. What this is
Clearbyte Labs gives you a real Amazon Web Services account for the length of a lab activity. The resources you create in it are real, they cost real money, and they are visible to your instructor. When the activity ends, the account is emptied and returned to a shared pool: anything you have not saved elsewhere is gone. AWS keeps a 90-day history of the actions taken in the account, with the IP address each came from, and in some labs a later student can read it.
2. What you may use it for
Coursework, and nothing else. You are granted access for the duration of your lab activities, for learning. You may not resell, share or transfer your access, and you may not use the account for personal or commercial purposes.
3. Rules you are agreeing to follow
- Abide by the AWS Acceptable Use Policy.
- Do not attack, scan or disrupt anything, inside AWS or outside it.
- Do not mine cryptocurrency or run workloads unrelated to your coursework.
- Do not attempt to bypass the limits, timers or security controls of the lab environment.
- Do not store personal, confidential or copyrighted material in the account.
- Follow your institution's own acceptable use policy, which continues to apply here.
4. What we record about you
Your name, email address and role as supplied by your institution's learning management system; the labs you launch and when; your answers and uploaded files; your scores; a record of the AWS resources in your lab account and, in some labs, of the AWS actions taken in it, which are used for grading; any rating you give a lab; and your acceptance of these terms. Your instructor can see all of it.
In labs that use the code editor, the lab may keep an edit log of each graded file: how much was typed or pasted, short previews of pastes, changes made outside the editor, and the timing between keystrokes. It is shown only to your instructor and does not change your score.
5. AI
Some short answers are checked by an AI model, and some labs give you AI feedback on your work. Your answers are sent to the model without your name or email address, through Amazon Bedrock, and are processed in the United States.
6. How long it is kept
Uploaded files and the records of your lab account are deleted 30 days after the lab. Everything else is deleted one year after your course's last lab, or sooner if your institution asks. More detail is in Student Data and Privacy.
7. If something goes wrong
Clearbyte Labs is provided as-is, for education. We do not guarantee that a lab will be available or that your work in it will survive (see section 1). Clearbyte is not liable for loss of work, and access may be withdrawn if these terms are broken.
